Maarten Wauters, R&D Manager

Maarten Wauters Vandersanden

"Vandersanden has felt like home since I was young. I grew up opposite the factory in Spouwen and remember how, at the age of five, grandpa took me to see if the brick kiln was working properly. He did that every night and as a child I loved watching those red-hot bricks through the hatch in the kiln. For some reason, those bricks always reminded me of a bathroom (laughs)."

Family values

Family values

"When I later got the chance to work for Vandersanden, it felt like coming home. I love seeing how the values that were important to my grandfather and the rest of the family - integrity, sustainability, craftsmanship, innovation and people-orientation - are still promoted by the company and each individual employee. In that view, I completely agree with Pirre: collective well-being is part of Vandersanden’s DNA. I will do my best to continue to live this culture and also share it with the many new employees who will join us thanks to our growth."

Long-term vision

"As an innovation manager, I must say that Vandersanden’s long-term vision is exceptional in the sector. It creates scope for sustainable investments in our employees, our products and the sector. Examples include our impregnated bricks and our RoboBrick. Vandersanden is not scared of occasionally taking a difficult path. You only find that in a family business."
