Simon Knapen, R&D Manager

Simon Knapen Vandersanden

"You can tell that Vandersanden takes a fresh look at the construction sector. For example, I work in the research department, but I don’t actually have any construction-related training. Vandersanden mainly wanted to bring in someone who looks at bricks in a different way, in order to keep innovating. That works to their advantage. At Vandersanden, I learned how fascinating bricks are and how great their positive impact on the world can be."

RoboBrick can make homes much more affordable

RoboBrick can make homes much more affordable

"The past two years I have been working mainly with RoboBrick, our fully automatic brick slip robot. By working faster and automatically, we can bond facade panels up to 15 times faster and save up to 60% in raw materials and energy. In this way, we increase the accessibility of our brick slips to the general public. This makes RoboBrick one of our most important achievements in collective well-being in the sector. I like to compare it to the assembly line for cars. When Henry Ford invented it more than 100 years ago, it marked the start of the process to make cars more accessible to a larger audience. With RoboBrick we can do the same for houses."

Together we build greatness

"RoboBrick also plays an important role within the company. It is an exciting project backed by very enthusiastic employees. RoboBrick is the result of close co-operation with customers and suppliers, and has already been installed at our partners IIBO and Spaansen. In other words, the system is the perfect embodiment of our slogan ‘Together we build greatness’."
