Mark Pastoors Vandersanden

"I have been working at Vandersanden for more than 20 years, first as a press operator
and now as a lab technician. I have always felt part of the Vandersanden family. In 2003 I
temporarily left Vandersanden to pursue my dream of becoming a professional soldier. But when I received the news shortly after that I was to become a father, Vandersanden welcomed me back with open arms. I will never forget that.

As a family business, Vandersanden does a lot to recognise its employees. You see this in the little things - we get fruit and a bottle of soft drink at work every day, for example - but also in the way Vandersanden deals with community life in Spijk."

Vandersanden is the lifeline of Spijk

"I would dare to say that Spijk is like the adopted child of Vandersanden. The village has about 13 streets; it’s not very big. Many people have left in recent decades and the school also had to close its doors. In the past, there were 1,100 inhabitants, today there are only 700. That’s a big shift for such a small village. Yet, there is a close-knit community and Vandersanden does what it can to support it.

For example, I am proud to say that thanks to the support of Vandersanden we are able to organise the arrival of Saint Nicholas in Spijk every year. And when we wanted to rebuild the stairs of our village dyke and renovate our village core, Vandersanden provided the materials. We can always count on them. That makes Vandersanden the lifeline of Spijk."
