Duurzaamheidsrapport Vandersanden 2026

Sustainability

At Vandersanden, we think in generations, not years. That is why we view sustainability in the broadest sense of the word. We take responsibility for our impact on the environment, invest in the well-being and development of our staff, contribute to a strong and forward-looking construction sector, and are committed to the communities in which we operate. This is how we’re helping to build a liveable, resilient future for today’s generation and those still to come.

At work

It all starts with feeling good at work. That’s why we invest in a safe, healthy and inspiring workplace where everyone can be themselves and make the most of their talents. We’re building a culture of trust, respect and teamwork, and we give our people every opportunity to grow, both personally and professionally. Together, we’re creating a place where people enjoy what they do, keep developing, and help shape a more sustainable future.

Corporate social responsibility initiatives

Vandersanden is a proactive and reliable partner, working with others to promote and implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. In doing so, we strive to build sustainable relationships with customers, colleagues, suppliers and industry organizations, as well as with those who are indirectly involved. We forge constructive partnerships throughout the entire supply chain, from raw material extraction right through to the installation and maintenance of our products. Because the best things are created together.

Bijlandse Waard: clay pits become a nature reserve

In collaboration with Van Nieuwpoort Gebiedsontwikkeling, we are ensuring that the River Rhine can flow freely through the landscape during high water. Beavers and pond bats are finding a new habitat there, whilst we work towards a future-proof and sustainable supply of raw materials.

For the environment

The well-being of people, the environment and the local community is central to everything we do. This is reflected in our innovative production methods and our efforts to make our production sites, products and solutions more sustainable. The climate challenge occupies a central place within our broader sustainability ambition. That is why we are bringing all our sustainability efforts together under ‘Together to Zero’: our shared ambition to be fully CO₂ neutral by 2050.

Together to Zero

Building on four strategic pillars, we are working towards climate neutrality by 2050.

  • Energy efficiency: We are optimising and electrifying our firing and drying processes.
  • CO₂ capture and storage:In Lanklaar, we are testing the filtration of CO₂ from flue gases. In addition, we have developed Pirrouet®, our carbon-negative facing brick, which permanently stores up to 60 kg of CO₂ per tonne of bricks during the production process.
  • Energy transition:We are transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable electricity and alternative energy sources.
  • Product transition: The shift from ‘traditional’ ceramic bricks to more sustainable products and solutions.

More about Together to Zero

In the community

Through ethical business practices, we contribute to a society in which everyone is given opportunities and in which we look after one another and our environment. We are also committed to numerous social initiatives. We support charities and encourage our employees to play an active role in their communities, helping to build a better society.
