Our promise for the future
Collective Wellbeing has been a key priority at Vandersanden from the very outset, with sustainability at its core. We have been investing in innovative production methods, and the sustainability of our production sites and products for many years. It is clear that Vandersanden is on the move on virtually all fronts right now.
Together to Zero is our promise to be CO2-free in our operations and production by 2050. Together with our partners, we make this happen in several areas, reflected in eight domains. We are using concrete steps to reduce our CO2 emissions to zero. It is a challenge we take on together.
Action in eight domains
Dematerialisation
We’ve been firing bricks in standard sizes for walls and paving for 90 years. Bricks with traditional sizes tend to be chosen for aesthetic reasons, but there are no technical or practical advantages to using 10-cm thick facing bricks. In light of this, we’ve been focusing on making our production process more sustainable in recent years.
Smart water management
We keep our water consumption to a minimum, reuse water wherever possible, and offer climate-adaptive solutions for public spaces.
Smart automation
With automation, smart production techniques and (partly) prefabricated parts, we save time, raw materials and energy. Everyone gains: our customers, our partners and the environment.
Low-energy production sites
We are striving for production sites with the lowest possible energy consumption. For example, our new kiln in Tolkamer emits 25% less CO2.
Renewable energy
In recent years, we have invested not only in solar panels, but we have also generated electricity and heat through cogeneration. Our production site in Lanklaar was the location of our very first wind turbine in the spring of 2022.
Circular materials
By using sustainable packaging materials and committing to the reuse of materials, we are able to reduce waste to a minimum. For example, we offer a free return service for disposable wooden pallets in Belgium and The Netherlands.
Mobility without fossil fuels
Our electric vehicles truly are CO2 neutral. We charge them using 100 percent green electricity: at home, at work, or at public charging stations.
CO2-negative products
With our carbonation bricks under development, we can save 80% on primary raw materials. It will also mean we will not emit any CO2 - on the contrary: we can even absorb a substantial amount of CO2 from the environment.
