Product transition
Through targeted product innovation, we are reducing raw-material use, lowering energy demand and helping the construction sector build more efficiently. In doing so, we address both climate challenges and the changing needs of the construction sector. We develop solutions that use fewer raw materials and less energy, speed up construction, and help reduce our environmental impact. In this way, we make our products not only more efficient, but also future-proof.
Our products respond to the needs of the construction sector and the demand for climate-adaptive solutions. With lighter materials, industrial construction concepts and permeable paving, we reduce our environmental impact and increase efficiency. Circular innovations such as Pirrouet®, a CO₂-negative brick, offer a practical response to the construction challenges of tomorrow.
Dematerialisation: fewer raw materials, less energy and lower CO₂ emissions
With S-line®, our range of narrow facade and paver bricks, we are committed to dematerialisation. They require fewer raw materials and less energy to produce, helping to lower CO₂ emissions, both during the production process and during transport, without compromising on quality or aesthetic properties. Thanks to their slimmer dimensions, S-line® bricks enable lighter and more compact construction, with more space for insulation. The S-line® pavers are made from renewable, local river clay that is BRL 7010 certified. They have an average lifespan of approximately 135 years and a reuse rate of almost 90 per cent.
Faster and more sustainable construction with off-site solutions
Our RoboBrick® off-site total solution bonds up to 2,000 brick slips per hour and saves up to 60% on raw materials and energy. The system is fully integrated into existing or new production lines and works on various substrates: timber frame, steel construction, concrete or insulation material. It is an integrated value-chain system that encompasses brick slips, specific design software, quality assurance and our expertise. This efficient production technique shortens lead times and guarantees a high-quality, error-free result. This is because assembly does not take place on-site, but in a production facility with suitable infrastructure, automation and logistics.
Climate-adaptive solutions for public spaces
More greenery and better water retention on the one hand, and draining rainwater during heavy downpours on the other: designing public spaces is often a complex puzzle. With Drainflow® and Greenflow®, Vandersanden offers a solution. Drainflow® is a range of permeable pavers that help rainwater infiltrate the soil more quickly during extreme downpours. Greenflow® is plant-permeable paving, where greenery provides additional water infiltration and cooling. In this way, these pavers help to limit flooding and contribute to a resilient, climate-adaptive living environment.
Circular brick with permanent CO₂ sequestration
Vandersanden’s latest innovation is Pirrouet®, a CO₂-negative facing brick that stores more CO₂ during its production process than it emits. It is made from more than 80% purified waste products from the steel industry. During the curing of the bricks, CO₂ is permanently sequestered by the calcium-containing materials they contain. As a result, this means that 60 kg of CO₂ is sequestered per tonne of Pirrouet® facing bricks. As production takes place at a very low temperature (< 50°C), energy requirements are also low. We source the required energy from waste heat and green electricity.
