Energy transition

We are continuing to switch to renewable energy wherever possible. We already use solar energy, our own wind turbine and combined heat and power for our production processes. We are also exploring new technologies and optimising our thermal processes, including through the use of AI, a reduction of our reliance on fossil fuels.

Wind turbine in Lanklaar

We have installed our own wind turbine at our site in Lanklaar. It generates 10,000 MWh of energy annually: equivalent to the energy consumption of around 2,000 households. Over 50 per cent of this is used for operations in Lanklaar. The rest is fed into the grid as green electricity.

+41,000 solar panels

We already generate a large proportion of the electricity for our factories using solar energy. We have now fitted solar panels on all suitable roofs. In total, our solar panel array currently comprises over 41,000 solar panels.

Combined heat and power

In recent years, Vandersanden has made targeted investments in combined heat and power (CHP) to generate both heat and electricity efficiently. This combined production allows us to make the best possible use of energy and minimise energy losses. The heat and electricity generated are used directly in our production processes, which contributes to lower primary energy consumption, resulting in reduced CO₂ emissions.

Electric transport

Electric transport

In collaboration with our transport partner Henken, we are introducing a fully electric lorry for the transport of our products. The e-lorry has a range of approximately 475 kilometres, making it highly versatile for our day-to-day logistics operations. This move will enable us to serve customers more easily within zero-emission zones, prepare for future emissions regulations, and contribute to a cleaner and quieter living environment.

Climate neutral by 2050

Our efforts in energy efficiency form part of a broader approach to structurally reducing our carbon footprint. Through four strategic pillars, we are working with partners, customers and colleagues towards a future-proof, climate-neutral brick industry by 2050.
