Happy Bikers: short distances by loaner bike
Doing small distances by bike was the idea of Michelle Graß and her teammates Jos Bosch and Stans Dietz.
Michelle Graß: “Colleagues often have to go to Tolkamer (4 km) during the day, or get bread from the bakery just across the border in Elten (4 km). It's actually a waste to keep taking the car to do that. I myself live too far from work to get there by bike and that's how I came up with the idea of buying a loaner bike in Spijk.”
Nicely striking
“Thanks to this, colleagues who do not have access to a bicycle during the day will now be able to cover short distances by bike. Stans and I went to the local bike shop to enquire. The bike had to meet a number of conditions: electric, saddle and handlebars easily adjustable in height and practical, with a large pannier that could hold a laptop bag and some groceries. We ordered the bike in a poison green colour, nice and eye-catching.”
Venturing out during the break
“The bike was delivered in autumn 2023, and then started a rainy period that lasted for a long time, which makes it less used than expected. Colleagues who have already used it are enthusiastic. They enjoy getting a breath of fresh air and some even go for a ride during their break. Anyone can borrow the bike, people from the factory and office. Just make a reservation in advance so we know who has brought the bike. The idea is, of course, that everyone who borrows the bike recharges it so that the next person can leave immediately. Meanwhile, there is already interest in Tolkamer for such a bike as well.”

Sustainable mugs
Litter on and around the Spijk site had been a thorn in Sietse Thuis's side for some time. “There was all kinds of stuff lying around, especially a lot of plastic coffee cups. After a brainstorming session, we came up with the idea of making coffee drinking more sustainable.”
Planting trees
Sustainability is a theme that resonates with colleagues Baptiste, Christian, Isabelle, Magali, Soukirah and Laurent in Halluin (FR). They came up with the idea of planting trees in the garden behind the office: a team-building activity with a green result.
