Planting trees with the colleagues from Halluin (FR)
Green office garden
Sustainability is a theme that resonates with colleagues Baptiste, Christian, Isabelle, Magali, Soukirah and Laurent in Halluin (FR). “The ‘common sense’ things we all already do here,” says Laurent. “We wanted to do something extra and our colleague Christian came up with the idea of planting trees in the garden behind our office. Trees store CO2 and thus help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”
Professional approach
“We wanted a professional approach and went to a nurseryman for proper advice. He came to see which trees would fit best here. His advice was to plant a number of flowering shrubs as well as trees. That gives a more beautiful and varied picture and invites you to sit outside. We chose six bay trees and two apple trees. Laurel stays green all year round and apple trees have beautiful blossoms in spring. Along the fence we planted clematis and hops.”

Meaningful team building activity
“On a sunny Friday afternoon, we planted the trees and shrubs with all our colleagues and the nurseryman. We first had lunch together and then rolled up our sleeves. It was an enjoyable afternoon in which we got to know each other in a different way. When do you see your colleague rooting in the earth? It was a nice and meaningful team-building activity. The trees are still very small now, so we have to be patient until everything grows and starts flowering. There is a picnic table in the garden and we look forward to soon being able to eat or take a break outside among the greenery. This will benefit both the climate and the team. In time, we would also like to have solar panels installed on the roof.”

Sustainable mugs
Litter on and around the Spijk site had been a thorn in Sietse Thuis's side for some time. “There was all kinds of stuff lying around, especially a lot of plastic coffee cups. After a brainstorming session, we came up with the idea of making coffee drinking more sustainable.”

Finance Team Climate Pact
The Finance Team is making the case for sustainability in several ways. “We set up the WhatsApp group 'Finance Team Climate Pact.' In it we share our sustainable actions: carpooling, biking to the bakery, picking up litter. The idea is that every little bit helps and many small actions add up to big ones.”
