Smothered pavers
For a stylish public space with a warm appearance, a smothered paver is a good choice. These pavers have a nuanced colour palette, ranging from dark grey and light grey to brown and even a hint of yellow.
Special colour nuances
Smothering is an addition to the firing processing, using kilns with a low-oxygen atmosphere. The lack of oxygen turns the iron oxide in the stones to grey, giving the pavers an unusual colour cast with flowing hues and nuances. The base colour and the stacking method in the kiln determine the ultimate tint and nuance.
Smothered pavers from Vandersanden come in the same high quality as our other products. They help to create atmosphere and are colourfast, natural, extremely strong, sustainable, and made from the renewable raw material river clay. Practically all pavers can be fired in one of our braising kilns. As these custom-made products have been manufactured specifically for your project, please discuss the options with one of our advisors.
Zwolle railway and bus station
Our smothered pavers have been used in numerous projects, including for the paving in the Hanzelaan bus station in Zwolle. The smothered pavers are scattered around the island platform, creating an unusual interplay of dark and light grey stones with yellow/brown nuances.
