Special colour nuances
Smothering is an addition to the firing process, using kilns with a low-oxygen atmosphere. The lack of oxygen turns the iron oxide in the pavers grey, giving them an unusual colour cast with flowing hues and nuances. The base colour and the stacking method in the kiln determine the final colour and nuance.
