When leaching occurs, the mortar is flushed out of the fresh mortar joints by rain. The mortar drips down the facing bricks and creates stains. To prevent this, protect new brickwork from moisture absorption. No rain should fall directly on the structure before the mortar has cured.

Lumps of quicklime in the mortar. Lime pitting results from slaking with too little water or inadequate mixing of the water through the (unfired) lime during slaking.

Undersized bricks are crushed into lime split. We use this crushed stone in our flue gas cleaning system. Or we ship it off to other industries, where it is used as a secondary raw material. Due to their angular structure, the fragments bind together well and provide stability.
