Coated bricks for preventive protection

Our wire-cut bricks are naturally resistant to gypsum efflorescence due to the closed structure of their surfaces. To protect our waterstruck and handmade bricks from these processes, we use special clays. The other types of bricks that are prone to efflorescence are coated. This makes the four visible sides of the facing brick or brick slip water repellent, so they retain their beautiful colour and appearance for a long time.

With coated bricks and other bricks that are protected against gypsum efflorescence, you can be sure that efflorescence will not occur and that your facade will also be better protected against efflorescence and other types of contamination. These bricks offer five key benefits:

1. Your facade stays beautiful longer, and you have a 25-year guarantee* against gypsum efflorescence.
2. A coated brick retains its original appearance in terms of colour, shape and structure.
3. The pores of the bricks remain open, and frost-resistance is guaranteed. Moisture in the core of the brick can escape via the bedding surfaces and through evaporation along the coated visible sides.
4. The coated visible sides absorbs considerably less water, reducing dirt build-up.
5. You avoid the expense of having your facade cleaned. Removing the gypsum efflorescence that forms is a job for experts. After mechanical cleaning, your facade bricks can be re-coloured, which can lead to uncertainty about the result.

At Vandersanden, we have been coating all our facing bricks that are susceptible to gypsum efflorescence since 2020. Our other facing bricks have a more closed surface structure. That is why we offer a 25-year guarantee against efflorescence on our entire range.
