Smart water management
At Vandersanden, we aim to treat our environment in a sustainable and environmentally-aware manner. That is why we focus on smart water management: we keep our water consumption to a minimum, reuse water wherever possible, and offer climate-adaptive solutions so rainwater is retained for longer.
Capture, purify and reuse
For the production of our bricks and brick slips, we use as little water as possible and this also limits our energy consumption. The water we use in the process circulates in a closed circuit. We never discharge industrial waste water: all our cleaning and production waste water is purified and reused. The water vapour that is created by drying our bricks is also captured to be used again. This water can be topped up with groundwater, but we never use drinking water.
All cleaning and production waste water from our production locations is captured, purified and reused on-site.
Letting rainwater soak in
As a result of climate change, we are more often faced with extreme drought and substantial rainfall. To limit the consequences of this, a climate-proof design for public spaces is crucial. That is why we have developed Drainflow®: climate-proof paving that allows rainwater to soak into the soil during extreme rainfall. We can thus prevent flooding and help to build up the groundwater reserve, allowing resilience through longer periods of drought.
Together to Zero
Together to Zero is our promise to be carbon-free in our operations and production by 2050. Together with our partners, we make this happen in several areas, reflected in eight domains. Water management is one of these domains: we keep our water consumption to a minimum, reuse water wherever possible, and offer climate-adaptive solutions for public spaces. In doing so, we are offering solutions to the challenges climate change is posing, in construction and elsewhere.
