Renovation into shopping centre with E-Board® (NL)

The E-Board facade system allows you to create lightweight, sleek facades with ecological brick slips. The facades at the ‘Boven ‘t Y’ shopping centre in Amsterdam demonstrate the architect’s creative design freedom.

A department store from the 1970s transformed into a multifunctional retail location with characteristic steel facade panels .The facade looks like brick, but has instead been created with the use of the E-Board facade system. The system combines insulation with ceramic brick slips. Vibrant colours and reliefs give the shopping centre a new entrance.

All brick slips

The design stipulated the use of solid brick as a replacement for the cladding. This would have increased the wall thickness to the extent that the building would cross the building line. As such, the designers opted for a compact alternative in the form of the insulating E-Board facade panel with brick slip finish.

The installers quickly created attractive reliefs by varying the thicknesses of the EPS panels and the brick slips. The result is a creative, compact facade with the robust quality of brick.

The new shopping centre surprises with a robust facade in relief. By renovating with E-Board, we were able to respect the building line without difficulty.
