As part of Together to Zero - our pledge to be fully CO2 neutral by 2050 - we have made huge investments into renewable energy in recent years. With our own wind turbine and more than 35,000 solar panels, we generate a significant portion of our electricity ourselves.
Wind turbine delivers 10,000 MWH per year
We installed our own wind turbine at our Lanklaar site. It generates 10,000 MWh of energy on an annual basis, which is the same as the energy consumption of about 2,000 households. More than fifty percent of this is used for the activities in Lanklaar, and the rest is fed back into the grid as green energy. With this new sustainable milestone, Vandersanden aims to make its production process and industry even more green.
Minimal noise impact
The wind turbine has a tip height of 200 metres and creates minimal noise impact. What’s more, the installation was set up with a monitoring system that measures the impact of shadow flicker from the blades on each individual facade and reduces it to no more than eight hours per year and eight hours per day. It is how we can reduce the impact for local residents to an absolute minimum.
Event for local residents and employees
We organised an event for all local residents and employees to celebrate the inauguration of our wind turbine in Lanklaar. After all, Vandersanden doesn’t merely want to focus on the environment: we also value Collective Well-being on and around our sites and as part of the wider society.
+35,000 solar panels
The installation of our very first wind turbine at the Lanklaar site is another step in our journey towards a green future. In recent years, Vandersanden has also invested in the use of cogeneration to generate heat and electricity, and in solar panels. We already generate much of the power for our factories through solar energy. Every suitable roof has now been fitted with solar panels. In total, our solar farm has around 35,000 solar panels.
Alternative energy research
Together with three fellow manufacturers, we are examining the possibilities of using biogas. We also sponsor a KU Leuven research project on hydrogen generation using solar energy. There is much scrutiny of next-generation solar panels for generating hydrogen directly.
Together to Zero
Together to Zero is our pledge to be CO2-free in our operations and production by 2050. Together with our partners, we make this happen in several areas, reflected in eight domains. One of these domains is renewable energy: we make our production facilities more sustainable by investing in green technologies, such as a cogeneration plant, solar panels, and our own wind turbine.
