Pre-cast concrete walls with fully finished ceramic facade thanks to co-operation between Spaansen and Vandersanden
Harlingen, X June 2020 - The Belgian brick company, Vandersanden, and the Dutch manufacturer of prefabricated casco's Spaansen join forces to accelerate the construction of prefabricated houses. For years, Spaansen has been making it possible to build panels in no time at all. Now, in partnership with Vandersanden, the company is taking a big step forward.
Total solution "Facade-ready"
From now on, Spaansen can supply facades completely finished with ceramic brick strips. This total solution is given the name "Facade-ready" and has been made possible in part by Vandersanden's RoboBrick system. This collaboration is the foundation for an intensive innovation process of both family businesses. The feedback, knowledge and experience of loyal customers are essential in this process.
Within the new housing market, the emphasis is on the fast, simple and efficient realisation of building projects. Contractors and clients are increasingly looking towards prefabricated constructions because they offer enormous time savings. Spaansen has been supplying concrete panels with window frames, electricity and collapsing facilities for many years. Once at the construction site, these panels are assembled at a rapid pace.
Spaansen now goes one step further: in collaboration with Vandersanden, Spaansen can now add ceramic-finished facades to the existing concrete shell. For this purpose, they use the RoboBrick system developed by Vandersanden to glue the brick slips - also from Vandersanden - to the insulation of the concrete walls. Both companies have committed themselves to a guarantee of no less than twenty years on the fixing of brick slips to the insulation of these walls.
“At Vandersanden we have believed for generations that you make the best together. We are happy to work with Spaansen to shape this sustainable solution”
High-quality and durable total solution
The advantages of this complete and innovative solution are numerous. The turnaround time of construction is significantly reduced and costs and CO2 emissions are also greatly reduced. Because the outer shell of the house can be fully assembled in no time at all, there is less need for the supply of building materials, which reduces handling and transport movements on the building site. In addition, the use of brick slips, instead of full bricks, saves no less than 60% in raw materials and energy. After all, the brick slips used have a width of 2cm, while a traditional facing brick is 10cm wide. With the same consumption, it is possible to cover a larger surface area of the facade.
Co-creation process between two established family businesses
This new solution from Spaansen, with which Vandersanden has put its shoulders to the wheel, is the result of an intensive innovation process on the part of both family businesses. During development, the findings and feedback from loyal customers were always taken into consideration.
"Our motto at Spaansen is "Connection is Our Success". In Vandersanden we have, therefore, found a partner who shares the same core values and who, thanks to an innovation course, is taking prefabricated facades to a higher level together with us," says Ab Knook, group director at Spaansen.
"At Vandersanden we have believed for generations that you make the best together. We are happy to work with Spaansen to shape this sustainable solution", says Maarten Leën, director of New Business Development and R&D at Vandersanden.
The Robobrick system developed by Vandersanden has been translated into the specific wishes of Spaansen and is currently being installed in a new production hall at Spaansen. The entire production process of the prefabricated facade systems takes place in Harlingen.
