100 Years of Vandersanden
If Jaak Vandersanden, our beloved founder, could be back for a day, would he be proud of what Vandersanden has become?
From Fire to Vision
For 100 years, the Vandersanden family has been building a sustainable future, rooted in craftsmanship, innovation and responsibility. Where others saw only bricks, Vandersanden envisioned the future. Under the motto “From Fire to Vision”, we connect our rich tradition with a forwardlooking mindset. Fire stands for passion and craftsmanship; vision for sustainable evolution and innovation. From that spark, we build extraordinary things together.
A Century of Milestones
1925 - Jaak Vandersanden - Founding father
In 1925, Jaak Vandersanden lit the spark that would shape a legacy for generations. He started with a modest field kiln in Spouwen, Belgium, driven by a passion for craftsmanship and innovation. From these humble beginnings, he laid the foundation for one of Europe’s leading and most forward-thinking brick manufacturers. His fire ignited a movement built on hard work, family values, and a vision that extended far beyond bricks. A century later, that same spark continues to inspire every brick we make and every idea we pursue. From fire… came vision.
1950s -
Industrialisation
Building on his father’s legacy, Constant Vandersanden grew a small family business into one of Belgium’s leading brick manufacturers while staying true to craftsmanship, sustainability, and long-term relationships. His calm determination and commitment to quality laid the foundation for expansion beyond national borders. Today, Constant’s values continue to guide every brick we make and every partnership we build.
1990 -
European expansion
Taking over in the 1990s, Jean-Pierre "Pirre" Wuytack transformed Vandersanden into one of Europe’s largest and most respected brick manufacturers while staying true to craftsmanship, sustainability, and long-term partnerships. Through strategic expansions and key acquisitions, he extended the company’s presence across France, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other key markets. Today, his vision and leadership continue to guide us in every brick we make and every market we serve.
2019 -
Collective well-being
Vandersanden made collective well-being a cornerstone of its mission, turning impact on people, communities, and the planet into a guiding principle for every decision. This long-term commitment shapes how the company fosters safe, inspiring workplaces, invests in social initiatives, and pursues climate action. By putting people and the environment first, Vandersanden builds more than bricks — it creates connection, purpose, and lasting value.
2020 -
Robobrick®
In 2020, Vandersanden introduced Robobrick®, a fully integrated automation solution for industrial façade construction. Combining smart software, expert guidance, and advanced production automation, it applies brick slips with speed, precision, and efficiency. More than automation, Robobrick® reduces material and energy use, supports sustainable building practices, and embodies a vision for a collaborative, efficient, and people-centered future.
2022 -
Together to Zero
Together to Zero marks Vandersanden’s bold commitment to achieve full climate neutrality by 2050 through collective action. The program focuses on energy efficiency, energy transition, product transition, and carbon capture and storage. From upgrading kilns and piloting green hydrogen to creating circular, carbon-negative bricks, Vandersanden is turning sustainability into tangible results. Together to Zero is more than a commitment, it’s a movement to build a better world - step by step, brick by brick.
2023 -
Pirrouet®
Pirrouet® represents a revolutionary step toward a more sustainable future, introducing the world’s first CO₂-negative brick. Developed through continuous innovation, investment in cutting-edge technologies, and rethinking traditional processes, it embodies Vandersanden’s commitment to circularity, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. Named in tribute to former CEO Jean-Pierre Wuytack, Pirrouet® honors the past while delivering a bold vision for future generations.
Four generations of Vandersanden
One hundred years ago, the Vandersanden family embarked on a journey of craftsmanship, innovation and sustainability. With both feet firmly in the clay, yet always looking forward. Now, a century later, we not only celebrate our past – we are building a sustainable world where innovation, responsibility and positive impact go hand in hand. With every brick, every facade and every street, we bring our vision to building something meaningful for people and the planet to life. Vandersanden remains a true family business, with all the values that come with it. Today, the fourth generation is actively involved in the company, while the fifth generation – cautiously, as they are still young – is being prepared for the future.
