How can you create a child-friendly garden?

Most children love to play outside. Fresh air, a little sun, and plenty of moving around are great for a child’s health, so it’s good to give them the opportunity to play in the garden. They can go outside whenever they want, and you can keep an eye on them. Make your garden a child-friendly place where the kids can play safely.

Swing, trampoline, and slide

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of a child-friendly garden is play equipment or toys. A trampoline, slide, or swing are always fun. Make sure that the ground underneath is nice, nothing too hard in case they fall off. Grass, artificial grass, or rubber tiles are ideal, but gravel and bark chips can also be useful. This way, your children can interact with different materials and play with them.

Fun without the need for play equipment

A child-friendly garden does not have to be filled with play equipment. Children can find a whole host of other ways to have fun. A simple grassy area is often enough. A sandpit where they can play with sand is also a great idea. Make sure to cover it to prevent leaves. In a garden with meandering brick paths and hedges, there are plenty of places for hide and seek. If your children love to tinker, a wooden workbench can be a good idea. You can also let your children keep animals in the garden, perhaps a rabbit or a few chickens. >/p>

Play in the shade

If you want your children to play outside without having to worry about sunburn or constantly lathering them in sun lotion, give them a play house or small shed. A treehouse is even better as it saves space in the garden. A tree or pergola also offers shade. You can hang a swing up in no time. A pergola also offers space for a separate seating area in the garden. Clay paving makes for the perfect surface for under seating. It also feels nice and warm underfoot.

Edible plants

Make sure that whatever plants you choose for your garden are not toxic, and read up before you buy. Children can be unpredictable. If you don’t keep good watch over them, they can easily stick a leaf in their mouths. You should also plant edibles like fruit trees, currants, and walnuts. Planting a vegetable garden with your children is better still. Children are often capable of more than you think, and enjoy doing things for themselves. They also learn where food comes from.
