E-Board® helps to reduce energy consumption after the façade renovation.
Maarten and Greet wanted to improve the energy performance and aesthetics of their home. Following consultation with their architect and a chat with one of our E-Board specialists at the Batibouw fair in Brussels, they did not need long to make a decision. Less than a year later, the renovation began.
Lower energy consumption and a refreshed façade
The couple wanted to renovate their home and achieve two goals: reduce energy consumption and refresh the façade. The first stage of the renovation was to switch to double glazing. Maarten and Greet opted for new matte-black aluminium window profiles. The new profiles were positioned in precisely the same place as the old profiles. In retrospect, this means that the reveals are slightly wider than normal now that the E-board façade system has been installed. But, they don’t consider this a problem. The windows are now positioned slightly farther back, which gives the façades more depth and more character.
We notice how much the climate inside has improved every single day. It’s comfortably warm in the winter, and nice and cool in the summer.
Moisture problem eliminated with new external shell
The biggest problem was the moisture coming from the solid concrete ring beams. They quickly realised that a new shell around the house would be an appropriate solution. For them, insulating with E-Board® façade insulation was the best decision they could have made. They fully encased the outside of their home with high-quality insulation, giving them a brand new façade finished with quality brick slips. Two birds, one stone. Their architect supported them in their decision-making.
A more comfortable indoor climate and reduced energy consumption
The façade renovation was a smooth process and everything went to plan. The contractor was an experienced specialist and did everything to the rules, and Maarten and Greet can now reap the benefits. They notice how much the climate inside has improved every single day. It’s comfortably warm in the winter, and nice and cool in the summer. Importantly, their central-heating system is now using much less energy than it was before.
Natural colour with a good look and corbelling in brick
The new and attractive façade in brick also offers added value. ‘We opted for the Vecto facing brick,’ explains Maarten. ‘A natural colour with a good look. The shade fits well with the existing landscape. We really like the nuances in the Vecto. There’s life in the colour, and it matches well with our black window frames. We are very happy with our choice and with the end result.’ At the door, they’ve had the facing brick run through so as not to disrupt the solid character. With the E-Board® façade system, they were able to construct a lightweight structure for the corbelling. Maarten and Greet now think that it’s one of the nicest features of their home.
