Are the EPS insulation panels from E-Board® watertight?

EPS (expanded polystyrene) is not waterproof per se, but does not have a capillary effect. This means that the insulation does not absorb water, and water can only penetrate if forced to do so by external pressure.

The E-Board adhesive mortar with which the panels are bonded to the substrate and the brick slips to the insulation is watertight. This ensures that, provided that it is installed correctly, the complete system is watertight . As a manufacturer, we have passed all official waterproofing tests with the WTCB (Scientific and Technical Centre for Construction).

There are additional certainties built in to the development of E-Board panels to ensure a watertight system, even if the system is not perfectly attached.

Which certainties are we talking about?

The composition of EPS is unusual, comprising smaller balls, a more dense structure, and moulded to ensure that our EPS panels themselves are watertight.
The edge finish has been specially developed to be completely watertight, unlike a standard edge finish. Along the top, the edge has a hook-weld connection. The edges hook in in succession so that there is a perfect layer size between the panels. Along the side is a tongue and groove joint that clicks together for an additional water drainage channel.
The front and rear of the panel are bevelled on the outsides. When adhesive is applied to the panels, this ensures more watertight mortar adhesive along the seams.
During installation, PU foam is sprayed between the seams of the insulation panels so that everything is bonded together for additional waterproofing.

In addition, the E-Board panels are formed in a mould, making every panel the same and providing for a considerably improved connection between the panels.
