7 reasons to opt for clay pavers

Pavers have countless positive features. Paving with clay pavers is sustainable, timeless, and attractive. Here, we set out seven good reasons to opt for clay pavers.

1. A centuries-old tradition

Our forefathers were constructing roads and buildings from brick as far back as the fourteenth century. The material has become inextricably linked to our cultural history. When clay pavers are used in historic town and village centres, they form a bridge between the public space and the historical buildings surrounding it. In new housing areas, this contemporary construction material provides an instantaneously recognisable look. Pavers both represent the future and typify a link with the past.

2. Pavers are sustainable and circular

Pavers are sustainable on many levels. To begin with, they have a very long lifespan – research has proved it. A clay paver has an average lifespan of 135 years, and can even run to double that, 250 years. 90% of pavers are reused, whether in public spaces or in domestic gardens. Thirdly, pavers have a low environmental impact – from extraction of the clay through to production and transport to maintenance, a paver is a sustainable choice.

3. Pavers are a natural product

Pavers are made from materials such as natural clay. In the production process, we do not add chemical treatments or artificial additives . River clay is a renewable raw material. In addition, extraction of clay helps to create new nature areas in floodplains. Once the clay pavers are laid in public spaces, the natural appearance offers an appealing combination with green landscaping. In addition, element hardening provides for good growing conditions for trees and shrubs thanks to good aeration and irrigation of the subsoil.

4. Pavers retain their beauty

Pavers are colourfast and do not fade. The pavers get their colour during the firing process, and contain no artificial additives. Importantly, the stones age and weather naturally, which gives the paving an attractive, natural character. Pavers are wear-resistant and can last for hundreds of years. They are resistant to extreme frost, road salt, and chemicals.

5. Paving with clay pavers is low-maintenance

Paving of clay pavers makes it much easier to maintain a public space. The convenient stones are relatively easy to remove and to relay later, so that maintenance technicians can quickly access subterranean cables and pipes. Repairs to paving itself are  also easy to carry out.

Our special  Linge® large sizes have fewer gaps between individual pavers, which means even less maintenance and a calmer streetscape.
